Children up to Seven
The first seven years of childhood comprise of one seven year cycle of physical growth, where learning is predominantly through imitation and action. Within this seven years there are also repeating cycles of the Gesell stages, which offer the children many different ways of being in the world, for example in the big, boldness of Younger Fours, the more inward sensitivity of Older Fours, the gentle sociability of Younger Fives, the lively scrambles of Older Fives-Younger Sixes and the loving balance in Older Sixes. Sevens begin a new seven year cycle with more sensitivity again. All these influences interweave with the individual nature and temperament of each child to challenge and delight us.
